Greener sites and greener homes
We’ve made a commitment to create environmentally sensitive and sustainable developments
Our design approach for Southend Road has been informed by significant ecological survey and assessment work undertaken since 2014 and with recent updates in 2022.
- The majority of the site is former agricultural grasslands, overtaken by scrub over a number of years. The existing green areas to the north will be restored to a mosaic of habitats, including open species-rich grassland, wildlife ponds and native shrub.
- Trees planted around thirty years ago, form a plantation belt wrapping around the site to the north and east. This belt will be largely retained with proposed management and enhancements to establish native woodland habitats.
- Former hedgerow features are evident within dense scrub habitats on the site. These important linear features will be protected and sensitively managed, alongside some necessary works to enable vehicular and pedestrian access.
- A substantial proportion of the site to the north and east will be retained and actively managed for both wildlife and informal recreational use and managed as a nature reserve.
