Why we are consulting
Martin Grant Homes wants to deliver a high quality sustainable development for Wickford and Shotgate.
The site was proposed for removal from the Green Belt and allocation for homes by the withdrawn Basildon Borough Revised Publication Local Plan 2014 – 2034. Until recently it was considered by the Council to be a preferred site for housing in the Wickford area.
We believe it is far better for sites that are already supported by evidence to come forward than those which were previously rejected. And, despite much of Basildon being classified as Green Belt, a number of competitor proposals are coming forward and looking to take advantage of the significant under provision of homes. For these reasons, Martin Grant Homes is preparing a planning application for this site.

Our initial application to Basildon Borough Council will be for outline consent.
We expect this will be during 2023. Whilst we will carefully consider the comments we receive through this consultation before finalising our plans for submission to the Council there will be further opportunities during the application stage to comment directly to the Council on the design and layout of Southend Road.
